Press Release No. : 20/2012
Date : 18 July 2012
The Reserve Bank of Fiji is pleased to support the Department of Agriculture in the annual Agricultural Show which is scheduled from 6 to 11 August at Churchill Park, Lautoka. The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Barry Whiteside in making this announcement said “the Bank will increase its financial sponsorship package to $12,000 this year. This includes $10,000 as part of the Silver Sponsorship Package and $2,000 in cash prizes for the Farmer and Young Farmer of the Year Awards.”
Mr Whiteside also added that the Agricultural Show is an excellent initiative given the importance of the sector to economic development, particularly in increasing exports, promoting local value adding and import substitution. This will work towards supporting Fiji’s balance of payments.
The Reserve Bank together with its partners from the financial industry look forward to promoting the agriculture sector and sustainable energy projects through exhibitions and seminars throughout the week. Financial literacy will be conducted by the financial institutions. The organisers have designated Thursday 9 August as Financing Day. The Bank and its partners will be promoting their finance facilities and products to investors and potential investors. Presentations will also be made to schools and other interested parties on the Fiji economy.
The Governor appreciates the support of the financial institutions and energy exhibitors towards the Agricultural Show and Financing Day. A program is being put together and will be posted on the Bank’s website www.rbf.gov.fj soon. The program will also be disseminated by the Department of Agriculture.
